Theory: What is pop art?

Pop art is and art movement that emerged in the United Kingdom and the United States in the mid and late 1950s. Pop art challenged the traditions of fine art by including images from popular culture. The pop art artists used daily products and well known people to make their art. In pop art vivid and flashy colors are mostly used and forms like dots and sharp lines.

In my dress I used one of the strongest colors: Red. My dress also has dots on and a lipstick that counts as a daily product.

Profession: Textile

Some important things in textile is to know about proportions and how to sketch. Before we designed the dress we learned how to draw bodies with the right proportions so we could sketch the designs on them later in the right proportions. This is why proportions are important. The word “textile” is from latin and means “to weave”, consequently the profession is called textile (Because the textile is made from weaving, knotting and pressing the fibers together). The textile industry is mostly concerned with the design, production and distribution of yarn, cloth and clothing.

Project: Pop art inspired dress

Hello, I am back! This time we were supposed to make a pop art inspired dress of paper. Our teacher told us that we could make whatever kind of dress we wanted, as long as it had something to do with pop art. We were allowed to use all kinds of paper. Before we could start designing the dress we learned a lot about the history of pop art. We worked with drawing silhouettes, sketches, form and proportions, before we started making the dress. Afterwards we had to make a collage, mind map and three different sketches to get inspiration. We were supposed to do this in a timeframe of 45 school-hours.
